Carriere man will plead guilty in child porn case later this month
James Allen Myers of Carriere will plead guilty in a child porn case alleging he made pornographic pictures and videos of a child while living with the girl’s family in Florida.
John Weber, the lawyer for the 65-year-old Myers, indicated earlier this week that his client would enter the guilty plea in U.S. District Court on January 29th.
Myers has been held since his arrest in Goose Creek, S.C., where authorities said he had fled to avoid arrest. He was taken into custody in October.
Homeland Security Investigations obtained a warrant for Myers’ arrest after the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Office reported it had seized pornographic materials from Myers’ home on Kings Point in Carriere in August.
The girl was 3 or 4 years old at the time of the alleged crime.
He faced trial on a seven-count indictment filed in November. Magistrate Judge Robert H. Walker ruled Myers was a danger to the community, especially young girls, and denied him bond.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement found the child, whose family was living in Sarasota, Fla., when Myers lived with them in 2008. A tag with a woman’s name was seen in the background in one video and was used to help identify the family.
Agents reportedly found hundreds of pictures and videos that include other young girls believed to be members of Myers’ extended family and social network.
According to court documents, Myers also had literature about the rape and incest of small children and was known to baby-sit small children.
