Poplarville School Board moves forward on baseball field house

The Poplarville School Board held it’s regular meeting on Monday, January 13.

Among the items discussed were the bids for the high school baseball field house, a Measure of Academic Service (MAP) agreement, and approvals for bus turn around requests.

“The biggest thing is we are able to move forward with the baseball field house at the high school,” said Poplarville High School Principal Carl Merritt. “Bids have been accepted and it is now at the point where it is with the architect for his final duties before construction.”

Another issue receiving approval was the agreement for the use of MAP in assessing student strengths and weaknesses.

“ MAP is a screener that we will use with elementary children to help assess their strengths and weaknesses

as they approach the third grade,” said Merritt. “The process of transitioning it into use is expected to be a smooth one. I have heard nothing but good things about it from around the state and look forward to implementing it with our students.”

There were four or five bus turnaround requests, which were approved.

“When we receive a request, it is looked at by transportation coordinator then the county gets involved,” said Merritt. “We verify there is a need and a safe place to do the turnaround, prior to the county getting involved. We want safety for all involved.”

In other matters the board approved financial reports, a copier service contract and discussed personnel matters.
