With the help of a supportive community, Pearl River County’s SPCA has placed in the top five of the Hill’s Science Diet Shelter Heroes contest.
Just like most public facilities, funding to keep these places open is often limited.
But as more and more pets are surrendered to these facilities, the funding does not increase to compensate, meaning the staff has to learn how to do more with less.
The $10,000 our local shelter will receive as part of placing third in the contest will certainly be put to great use as they replace aging refrigerators, rusting dog runs and provide medical care for the hundreds of dogs and cats currently in their care.
This win is a testament to the support of our local community, because it was your votes that made this possible.
To see such a response from the community is heartwarming. It shows that the residents of this county do care about the shelter and the staff’s efforts to find homeless pets a forever home where they will be loved.
What is exceptional about this achievement is that Pearl River County’s animal shelter beat out shelters in communities with much larger populations.
That just goes to show how much the residents in our county care about the shelter and the efforts the staff puts into ensuring that every pet will eventually find a place with plenty of food, plenty of space to run and a human to love.
Pet owners know the value of caring for the family cat or dog. Sure, they don’t speak, and can’t help with the house hold chores, but the four-legged members of our families provide so much more, unconditional love.
