CARRIERE — Junior running back Michael Tatman took the ball 50 yards to the house 19 seconds into the game for the Pearl River Central High School Blue Devils. That bursting run set the tone for the rest of the game as PRC steamrolled Long Beach 46-14.

The Blue Devils improve to 6-1 while Long Beach drops to 1-7.

The win comes during PRC’s “Pink Out” game in which the players donned pink attire and the fans wore pink T-shirts in recognition of October as breast cancer awareness month.

Head Coach Eric Collins said the players did exactly what he and his staff asked them to do.

“We came out and we took care of business right from the get go,” Collins said.

The running game was working for the Blue Devils. PRC’s senior running back Christian Roberts broke free for a 14-yard touchdown run with five minutes left in the first quarter. Long Beach then answered back with 1:32 left on the clock as junior quarterback Justin Lockey completed a 20-yard screen pass to senior running back Mario Clark for a score.

The Blue Devils continued their ground assault in the second quarter with an 8-yard touchdown run by senior running back Hunter Holifield with 9:12 on the clock. On Long Beach’s next drive, senior cornerback Matt Spence tipped a pass up in the air, which was corralled by PRC’s sophomore Andy Banks for the pick.

That set up Roberts for a 3-yard touchdown run with 7:59 left in the second quarter marking Roberts’ second trip to the end zone in the half.

Collins’ squad did not let up defensively. Senior linebacker Cody Spiers and senior defensive end Drake Whitfield dropped Lockey for an 8-yard loss.

PRC capped off a 52-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run by Roberts.

Lockey threw a 99-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Trevor Terry, but that marked the end of the Bearcats’ scoring for the night.

Junior quarterback Wyatt Davis came back and tossed a 28-yard bullet to Banks to make the score at the half 39-14.

Senior linebacker David Salser started off the second half with a pick to set up Roberts’ fourth and final touchdown run. Salser recorded a sack later in the third quarter as well.

PRC looks to continue their momentum when they travel to Gautier (3-4) next Friday at 7 p.m.
