The Pearl River County SPCA will be holding a special on certain adult cats and dogs at the shelter from May 2nd through the 15th.

The animals include six cats and two dogs, which will be up for adoption for $10 each, PRC SPCA President Maria Diamond said.

“These animals normally run around $80 each,” Diamond said. “We’ve got really good cats and they’re only around five and six years old.”

The shelter is hosting the sale to prepare for the influx of kittens arriving at the shelter during breeding season, which peaks around this time, Diamond said. The sale also serves as a way to help adult pets find a home.

“We know their personalities so we’ll be able to match up the right pet to the right person,” Diamond said.

All adult pets are spayed and neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations and have microchip implants.

Diamond said purchasing adult pets is a wise choice because they’re easy to train, require less maintenance and have a calmer disposition compared to younger pets.

On Saturday, May 2 the shelter will host two events in conjunction with the adult pet sale. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., they will hold a dog wash, where animal owners can bring their pets to get washed and nails clipped for $5 each or $8 for both. The shelter will also host their bi-annual vaccination/microchip clinic and craft fair concurrently. Pet owners can bring their pets to the shelter to receive vaccinations as well as microchip implants. A licensed veterinarian will administer all vaccines. The shelter asks that all pets be on a leash or inside a carrier. The fees range from $7-$25 per pet depending on the pet’s age and the vaccine.
