Two suspects were arrested Thursday, April 2, for possession of crystal meth and several other controlled substances.
On Thursday at 11:14 a.m. a Picayune police officer conducted a traffic stop at Cooper Road and Rhett Drive for careless driving and littering. As the officer approached the vehicle he smelled what he believed to be marijuana coming from inside, said Assistant Police Chief Jeremy Magri.
The driver, 44-year-old John Dubuisson of 22187 Pineville Road, had a suspended license and could not provide proof of insurance, Magri said. When this information could not be provided, the officer asked Dubuisson to exit the vehicle and place his hands on the car.
After Dubuisson refused to comply, the officer attempted to place Dubuisson into custody, Magri said. Dubuisson made an attempt to elude arrest, but after a brief struggle the officer was able to place Dubuisson into custody, Magri said.
The officer then asked the passenger, 27-year-old Robert Carter of 1215 Meadowood Road, to exit the vehicle at which time the officer observed a plastic bag hanging out of Carter’s boot, Magri said.
When the officer confiscated and searched the bag he located 3 plastic baggies, which contained a white crystalized substance believed to be crystal meth, Magri said. A medicine bottle containing several blue pills and several peach colored tablets identified as Xanex and Alprazolam were also discovered, Magri said.
Carter was then taken into custody, and the officer conducted an inventory of the vehicle. During the search, an orange medicine bottle believed to contain codeine syrup was found in the front center console and a brown hand rolled cigar containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana was found in the ashtray, Magri said.
Both suspects were then transported to the Criminal Justice Center where Dubuisson was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, failure to comply, littering, driving while license suspended, no insurance and careless driving, Magri said.
Carter was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, three counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana, Magri said.
