Meet our new reporter

I’m honored to be The Picayune Item’s new General- Assignment Reporter. If you’ve already read some of my stories, you were probably wondering “who’s this new reporter?” so here’s a little bit about who I am.
I’m originally from South Florida in a city called Pembroke Pines. In high school, I realized what I wanted to do when I grew up. If you couldn’t already guess, I wanted to pursue a career in journalism. During high school, I worked my way up to editor-in-chief of my high school’s newspaper, ‘The Raptor’.
After high school, I moved up to Central Florida to pursue a Bachelor’s in Broadcast Journalism at the University of Central Florida. At UCF, I was reporter, videographer, and producer for UCF Knightly News and I interned at two local television stations. I was also involved in the school’s Glee Club and worked part-time as a cast member at Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World.
After graduating from college in May of 2014, I knew that I needed to write stories for a living and it didn’t matter where I had to go to get my start in journalism. I loved writing for both print and television, but I knew I wanted to start my career at the place where my love of journalism began. So between one thing and another, I found myself fresh out of college moving to Picayune to be a newspaper reporter.
When I’m not working, I enjoy writing creatively, whether it’s blogging about pop culture or working on a screenplay. I also enjoy time with family and friends. I am obsessed with anything pumpkin-flavored from Starbucks, and I am an avid movie fan, who can recite a bunch of movie quotes from films all the way from the 1930s to present-day. Also, being a reporter, I have to say I’m a news junkie and I watch national news on a daily basis.
While I’m new in town, I am looking forward to this new adventure. Now that you know a little about me, I look forward to covering Pearl River County and getting to know all of you.
