Sentencing set in Katrina fraud case

The sentencing hearing for a woman convicted of Hurricane Katrina fraud has been rescheduled for Thursday.

Crystal V. Vance was charged in a nine-count indictment that claimed she falsified a tax receipt from the Harrison County Tax Assessor’s Office in March 2006 to get disaster assistance after Hurricane Katrina.

Vance also was accused of making false statements to receive $1,000 from FEMA in disaster-relief benefits after Katrina.

She pleaded guilty to fraud in June.

U.S. District Judge Louis Guirola Jr. is scheduled to sentence her Thursday in Gulfport. The date was rescheduled from later in the month due to a conflict in the court’s schedule.
