The 86-year-old daughter of the late U.S. Rep. John E. Rankin has donated the former congressman’s papers to the University of Mississippi.

Annie Laurie Rankin Sanders of Boise, Idaho, who was Rankin’s only child, donated the papers this week. The papers will remain sealed until after Sanders dies.

Rankin, a Democrat, served in the U.S. House from 1921-1953. During that time, he co-authored the bill creating the Tennessee Valley Authority and was a strong supporter of President Roosevelt’s New Deal, as well as the GI Bill of Rights.
