Carrie Lee Willis

Carrie Lee Willis of Picayune, was born on July, 3, 1924 in Cybur, Miss., to Willis “Sand Pit Red” Vaughn and Iola Chambers. She enjoyed cooking, listening to gospel music and working with children, singing, and life itself. Ms. Carrie was a director of the Junior and Senior choir. On Thursday, May 10, 2007 in Natchez, Miss. the Angel’s needed a director for God’s choir and Carrie Lee Willis was chosen for the job at the age of 82.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Robert Vaughn and Willis Vaughn, Jr.; three sisters: Lucille Chatman, Patricia Washington, Sylvia Vaughn; and one grandson, Robbie R. Little.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Roland Willis of Picayune; her son, Larry (Rose) Jackson of Natchez; and her daughter, Barbara Lawton of Detroit, MI; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be Thursday, May 17, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Greater Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 501 Weem St., in Picayune, where the Rev. Barrzell Langham is pastor. Visitation will be at the church two hour prior to service time. Burial will follow at Picayune Cemetery in Picayune.
