Pearl River Central will wrap up spring football drills by hosting a four team jamboree at Blue Devil Stadium tonight.

Second year PRC head coach Jeremy Weir’s troops will welcome Columbia and Pass Christian in and the Blue Devils won’t be the only local team in the mix as Hancock will compete as well as the Hawks will wrap up their second spring session under the guidance of head coach Brian Barkley.

Action is expected to kick off at 5 p.m. Teams are expected to compete against two others in a 12 minute, one quarter situation with a running clock.

PRC is slated to take on Hancock and Pass Christian in the event.

Pass Christian has competed in Division 8-4A with the Blue Devils for the past several seasons, but the Pirates will be dropping down to Class 3A this season and competing with Columbia in Division 8-3A.

Hancock remains a 5A school, but the Hawks will not play PRC this season for the first time in a couple of years.

In fact, PRC will open the season by hosting South Jones on August 31, and then meet Vancleave and Forrest County AHS in its pre-Division 8-4A games.

The Blue Devils will have an open date in the final regular season spot on the schedule, much like Picayune has had the past two seasons.

Hancock, meanwhile, will keep its county rivalries alive this coming season by meeting both St. Stanislaus and Bay High in pre-Region 4-5A games, as well as taking on Pass Christian.

The Hawks, who are in the midst of a 22 game regular season losing streak, will also have an open date during the season.

Just like Division 8-4A, where D’Iberville replaced Pass Christian, Region 4-5A also had a bit of a shake up as Petal replaces Moss Point in the league this season.

The Panthers are moving up to Class 5A, while the Tigers are dropping down to Class 4A.

PRC and Hancock started spring drills a week later than most prep teams in South Mississippi.

Picayune and Poplarville, along with quite a few other teams across the region, finished up spring drills Friday by competing in similar jamborees.

Fall practice begins for all teams on Monday August 6th.
