Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at 12 noon in the McDonald Funeral Home Chapel for Frank P. Hayward, 70, of Carriere, who died Friday, May 11, 2007 in Carriere.

Burial will be in the New Palestine Cemetery under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home of Picayune.

The Rev. Andrew Lombardo will officiate at the service.

A native of Akron, Ohio, he was a retired Police Officer and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, The Police Mutual Benevolent Association, The American Society for Industrial Security, and the Louisiana Law Enforcement Association. Mr. Hayward was awarded three medals of Merit by the New Orleans Police Department as well as being a recipient of the Charles Dunbar Award for Civil Service. During his career, he was in command of the Urban Squad the 3RD District, ASAP, and was the Public Information Officer. Two weeks prior to the death of President John F. Kennedy, he and his partner arrested Lee Harvey Oswald for passing out Cuban literature.

Survivors include: his wife, Evelyn Hayward of Picayune; two sons, Kevin Hayward of Waveland and Anthony Hayward of St. Augustine, Fla.; two daughters, Marcia Canatta of LaCombe, La., and Marisa Wood of Dothan, Ala.; and 10 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 from 11-noon in the McDonald Funeral Home.
