A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at 11:00 am at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette, LA for Edith Stockstill Odom, 89, who passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023, at her residence in Lafayette, LA. Visitation will be observed at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette, LA on Thursday, December 7, 2023, from 10:00 am until the time of service. Entombment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette. Pastor Weldon Moak of Lafayette will officiate.

Edith Stockstill Odom, was born November 23, 1934, in Picayune, Mississippi. She graduated from Pearl River Central High School in Carriere, Mississippi. After high school, Edith attended Pearl River Junior College and Mississippi Southern College, known now as The University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics in 1957. Upon graduation, Edith worked for the Extension Service of Mississippi State University as a County Agent. She later worked for Arkansas-Louisiana Gas as a Home Service Advisor, while living in Shreveport.

Edith married James Odom on September 6, 1958. During their years together, they lived in Shreveport, New Orleans, and Lafayette, Louisiana; as well as Duncanville, Texas, all before retiring in the Lafayette area.

Edith was known as a wonderful hostess and nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved hosting large family gatherings. Edith taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and Bible Drill at First Baptist Church of Lafayette, for many years.

Edith was always tremendously proud of her husband, three children, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Above all, she loved the Lord with all of her heart.

Edith is survived by her beloved husband, of 65 years, James Odom, of Lafayette, LA; her two sons, Jim Odom and his wife, Roechell, of Spring, Texas, and Dan Odom and his wife, Maryanne, of Dallas, Texas; her daughter, June Odom Jefcoat and her husband, John, of Scott, LA; her eight grandchildren, Johnae Jefcoat-Broussard and her husband, Dylan, Jacob Jefcoat and his wife, Brittany, Clint Odom and his wife, Christina, Shannon Odom, Erin Odom, Will Odom, Olivia Odom, and Chris Odom; and her four great-grandchildren, Eden Jefcoat, Noelle Jefcoat, Navy Jefcoat, and James Broussard.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert Stockstill and Maggie McPherson Stockstill and her sister, Barbara Hardman.

Honored to serve as Pallbearers are John Jefcoat, Jacob Jefcoat, Clint Odom, Will Odom, Chris Odom, and Dylan Broussard.
