James F. Guess

James F. Guess, “Jim”, who resided in Carriere, MS since 1989, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023.  Jim, 75, was born August 30, 1948 and adopted by his parents, Hubert and Donna Guess, who raised him and his sister, Kathy Woolum, in Dayton, Ohio. Jim’s parents and sister preceded him in death.

     After high school, Jim joined the Navy and traveled the world. It was in Virginia, Beach, Virginia, that he would meet his beloved future wife of 49 years, Candy Guess.  Jim retired from the Navy in 1986 and worked for the government until his retirement in 2012.
     Jim, in his younger years, loved riding his Harley with his motorcycle club, Abate, in Marrero, LA. In his retirement, he loved spending time with his wife working on his home and in the yard, and spending time with his grandchildren Tallon, Meadow and Phoenix Guess.
     Jim was survived by his wife, Candy; his daughters, Dawn Whisenunt, Misty Lumpkins, and Winter Hope Guess; his step-daughter Christy Hayford; his 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
     Jim’s services will be Saturday, October 28, 2023 at the First Baptist Church of Carriere.  The viewing will be in the Fellowship Hall from 3:00-4:30 pm, and a sunset burial will immediately follow.

     The family wishes to thank all of our family, friends and community that have reached out to us in our time of grief.  He will be greatly missed. May he rest in paradise.
