There was one new COVID-19 death reported in Pearl River County on Monday, bringing the number of deaths related to the current pandemic up to 35.

In Pearl River County, 14, or 41.2 percent of COVID-19 deaths, have occurred in long term care facilities.

As of July 28, there were 55,804 COVID-19 cases in Mississippi, with 1,563 deaths. An estimated 35,071 people have recovered from COVID-19. There have been 452 COVID-19 cases in Pearl River County, with 53 cases in long-term care facilities.

As of July 23, three long term care facilities in Pearl River County had active COVID-19 outbreaks: Bedford Care Center of Picayune, with six staff cases, six resident cases and two deaths; Pearl River County Nursing Home, with two staff cases and one resident case; and Picayune Rehabilitation and Healthcare, with one staff case.

According to information from the Mississippi State Department of Health, COVID-19 cases in Pearl River County were on the rise beginning the week of June 20 until the week of July 18. Over 50 cases were reported the week of July 18 and over 40 were reported the week of July 25.

According to MSDH, 19,418 Black Mississippians have had COVID-19, with 731 dying due to the virus. There have been 13,109 COVID-19 cases among white Mississippians, resulting in 602 deaths. In Pearl River County, 73.5 percent of COVID-19 deaths have been white residents, while 26.5 percent have been Black residents. Across the state, Black Mississippians make up 51.5 percent of COVID-19 deaths, with 42.4 percent of the deaths attributed to white Mississippians.

According to MSDH, as of July 28 statewide deaths categorized by age group are: 10 in the 18-29 age group; 23 in the 30-39 age group; 71 in the 40-49 age group; 156 in the 50-59 age group; 331 in the 60-69 age group; 413 in the 70-79 age group; 350 in the 80-89 age group and 209 in the 90 plus age group. No deaths have been reported in any Mississippians under 18.

The majority of cases across the state, 12,159, have been in the 18-29 age group, while the 90 plus age group has had the least number of cases at 771.

As of July 25, in Pearl River County the deaths categorized by age group are as follows: 2 in the 50-59 age group; 7 in the 60-69 age group; 13 in the 70-79 age group; 7 in the 80-89 age group and 5 in the 90 plus age group. At 70 cases, the 70-79 age group has the highest number of reported cases in the county in any age group, while the 90 plus age group has the least number of reported cases at 10.

In Mississippi, 42.1 percent of cases have been in males, with 57.3 percent reported in females.

Approximately 10.2 percent of reported cases required hospitalization, 60.9 percent did not and in 28.8 percent of cases the rate of hospitalization is unknown.

For the week of July 20-July 26, the high case Mississippi counties included Hinds, Rankin, Madison, Lee, Desoto, Forrest, Harrison, Oktibbeha, Jones, Panola, Lamar and Bolivar. The high incident counties included Quitman, Holmes, Bolivar, Perry, Covington, Lawrence, Panola, Tishomingo, Coahoma, Greene, Marion and Sharkey.

As of July 28, 458,686 people have been tested for COVID-19 statewide, of which 16,140 were antibody tests.
