Man shot in leg, suspect arrested

A Picayune man was arrested Monday for aggravated assault after a person was shot in the leg Saturday on Clark Street.

On Saturday at approximately 7 p.m. Picayune Police Department officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of 8th Avenue to respond to an aggravated assault that occurred on Clark Street within the city limits, according to a press release from Assistant Chief Dustin Moeller.

When they arrived, officers found a man lying in the driveway of the home with a gunshot wound to his leg, the release states. Witnesses told officers that the victim and his girlfriend were walking down Clark Street when a dark colored SUV pulled up. A man exited the SUV and began to fight the victim, the release states, and at some point during that fight the victim was shot in the leg.

AAA Ambulance Service was called to the scene and the victim was transported to Forrest General Hospital, where he is in stable condition.

The suspect in the case, JW Ross Magee, 33, of 806 Jarrell St., Picayune, was arrested on Monday by detectives and transported to the Criminal Justice Center where he was booked and incarcerated for aggravated assault, the release states.

According to departmental arrest reports, Magee was arrested for aggravated assault manifesting extreme indifference to life and aggravated assault with a weapon or other means to produce death. His bonds were set at $10,000 and $25,000 and he was released on bond Monday, the arrest reports state.
