For the first time in months, all of the Poplarville Board of Aldermen members attended a Board meeting in person. A few Board members wore masks to protect against COVID-19.
The Board continued to livestream its meeting on Facebook, a practice it began due to limiting public attendance.
The Poplarville Board of Aldermen approved renewing the city’s declaration of emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic at the regular Board meeting held Tuesday.
City Hall staff will be back working in City Hall on Monday. Services will still only be offered through drive-thru.
City Clerk Jane O’Neal said she has not received any complaints about offering drive-thru services.
The Board also approved reopening city parks and splash pad effective Friday to give time for the Public Works Department to sanitize the parks and get signage and hand sanitizer available in the park.
Governor Tate Reeves is requiring parks to be sanitized every two hours to reduce the risk of COVID-19.
In other business the Board:
—Approved engaging Jason Lamb with The Walker Associates to determine a scope of work and solicit quotes for repairing a failed storm drain at 409 North Jackson Street.
—Approved issuing a franchise to Mississippi Power Company for 25 years. Poplarville will receive 3 percent of the total revenue from retail sales of electric energy in the city or $300 per annum. The Board previously proposed the ordinance for public consideration.
—Approved adding two volunteer firefighters to the volunteer firefighter roster.
—Approved a request to use City Square Park for a drive-thru blueberry market on June 13 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the original date of the Blueberry Jubilee.
The next Board meeting will be Tuesday Jun 16 at 5 p.m.
