A four-vehicle collision on Wednesday involving an eighteen-wheeler closed the Highway 11 bridge over the West Hobolochitto Creek, but no one was seriously injured, said Capt. Kerry McGill with the Picayune Police Department.
The Picayune Police Department was called to the accident at 2:45 p.m. When the officers arrived, an investigation into the collision showed that an SVU going southbound over the bridge had a vehicle malfunction that caused it to slow down, said McGill. The pickup truck behind it also slowed down. An eighteen wheeler behind the pickup truck attempted to slow down, but was unable to do so in time, said McGill. The eighteen-wheeler pushed the two vehicles in front of it into each other. The SVU was pushed into the opposite lane and hit a northbound pickup truck.
The collision occurred on the northern part of the bridge. Three wreckers were needed to clear the accident and Highway 11 was shutdown for at least 30 minutes, said McGill.
