Thursday edition to be cut from Item

Published 7:00 am Saturday, April 4, 2020

The Picayune Item began in 1904, making this publication the longest existing business in Picayune.
Over the years we have gone through a lot of changes but we have always been consistent with our original mission, to keep the citizens of Picayune and the surrounding communities informed and up-to-date with news and information that affects them.
As Mississippi and the nation navigate this difficult time in our history, businesses big and small face the daunting task of providing essential services to the public while also dealing with revenue reductions.
Just like other businesses in our community, the Picayune Item is also dealing with the challenge of navigating through difficult periods. We must remain profitable so we can continue to be a part of Pearl River County in the future.
The current situation has caused us to take a hard look at our operation, and consider ways to help us make it through these tough times. As such, we have made the decision to reduce one publication day from our weekly schedule.
We decided to remove Thursday because it was the least profitable day and has been declining for some time. The recent economic downturn worsened that decline.
Starting next week, we will cease publication of the Thursday edition but we will continue to publish four days a week on Tuesday and Wednesday and Friday and Saturday.
Even though we will not have a Thursday edition, we will continue to update our website at picayuneitem.com with up-to-date news Thursday morning, just like with our other publication days. As always, breaking news will be posted to our website at any time of the day or week as we learn of those situations.
We appreciate your understanding and look forward to continuing to be your community news resource.
