COVID-19 cases continue to rise

Mississippi had two new COVID-19 deaths reported Wednesday night, and one COVID-19 outbreak in a long-term care facility has been reported in Pearl River County.

Mississippi had 1,177 total cases, with 26 deaths as of Wednesday. No deaths have been reported in Pearl River County, but there are 36 confirmed cases.

Other counties with double or triple digit cases include, Adams with 14, Attala with 12, Bolivar with 27, Chickasaw with 14, Coahoma with 23, DeSoto with 103, Forrest with 26, Hancock with 22, Harrison with 53, Hinds with 118, Holmes with 16, Jackson with 57, Lafayette with 16, Lauderdale with 46, Lee with 24, Leflore with 20, Lincoln with 14, Lowendes with 10, Madison with 55, Marshall with 18, Monroe with 11, Okibbeha with 20, Pike with 21, Pontotoc with 10, Rankin with 50, Scott with 13, Sunflower with 12, Tate with 12, Tippah with 29, Tunica with 14, Walthall with 10, Washington with 29, Wilkinson with 17 and Yazoo with 11.
Counties reporting fatalities due to the virus include Amite (1), Boliver (1), Chicksaw (1), Desoto (1), Hancock (1), Harrison (1), Holmes (1), Humphreys (1), Jackson (1), Lafayette (1), Lee (1), Leflore (1), Marshall (1), Monroe (1), Montgomery (1), Panola (1), Perry (1), Rankin (1), Sunflower (1), Tippah (2), Tunica (1), Webster (1), Wilkinson (2) and Yazoo (1).

The Forrest Health system has performed 1,248 COVID-19 tests, with 530 pending, 644 negative and 74 positive. As of Wednesday, Highland Community Hospital had two inpatients with COVID-19.

There have been 22 COVID-19 outbreaks in long-term care facilities in the state. Even one case in a resident or employee at a long-term care facility is considered an outbreak.

Across the U.S., there have been 4,513 deaths and 213,144 cases. Worldwide there have been 998,047 confirmed cases and 51,335 deaths. The U.S. leads the world in the number of cases, followed by Italy with 115,242 cases and Spain with 110,238 cases.
