70 new COVID-19 cases reported in state

As of March 23, there were 71 new COVID-19 cases in Mississippi, bringing the total to 320 cases. There is still only one death reported in the state. One new case was reported in Pearl River County, bringing the total number of cases to 13.

There are 51,935 confirmed cases in U.S., with 660 deaths. Worldwide there have been 372,757 cases, with 16,231 deaths as of March 24, according the World Health Organization.

Forrest Health implemented a zero visitor policy Tuesday, a policy that relates to Highland Community Hospital and the Pearl River County Hospital and Nursing home. There are exceptions for laboring mothers, pediatric or NICU patients, end-of-life patients, critically ill patients and patients with special needs.

As of March 24, there were two COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Highland Community Hospital, according to information on Forrest Health website.

Forrest Health expects more COVID-19 tests this week, but are currently only testing patients who are ill enough to need hospitalization and healthcare workers who are symptomatic for COVID-19.
