The Poplarville Board of Aldermen held a special call meeting on Tuesday at 9 a.m. to discuss personnel matters in the police department.

The meeting started with the Board entering executive session to discuss those personnel matters.

When the Board exited executive session, they approved a motion to rescind the resignation of Danny Collier, which they accepted at the last Board meeting held on Nov. 19. The Board then passed a motion to promote Collier from Sergeant to Captain.

Even with Collier’s promotion, the police department has one full time officer position open and authorized looking for in-house candidates to fill the position at its Nov. 19 meeting.

Prior to Collier’s promotion, the department had one captain, said Mayor Rossie Creel.

Having more officers in leadership positions within the department will provide more continuity and stability for its officers, Creel said.

“His years of experience, we believe, are vital to the success of the process of rebuilding the department,” Creel said.
