Picayune’s Maroon Tide football team kept its winning streak alive against the Pascagoula Panthers on a chilly night at Lee-Triplett Stadium.

Pascagoula won the toss, but deferred, and after a short return the Maroon Tide offense started its first possession on the Picayune 32 yard line.

On the first play of the drive Quarterback Jakail Myers handed the ball to full back Kade Turnage.

Turnage made a quick move in the hole then took off downfield for a 62-yard touchdown run.

Austin Samples’ PAT went through the uprights to give Picayune a 7-0 lead with 11:48 left in the first quarter.

The Panthers would start their first drive on the Pascagoula 28 yard line.

Picayune’s defense stood firm, and a sack by defensive end Carson Conner led to the Panthers going three and out.

Picayune would let the ensuing punt roll and the offense came back on the field with the ball on the Picayune 35.

Again, the Maroon Tide struck quickly.

After just two plays, running back Cameron Thomas took a handoff down the sideline 64 yards for another Picayune touchdown.

The extra point was good and Picayune lead 14-0 with 8:40 left in the first quarter.

On the ensuing possession for Pascagoula the Maroon Tide forced the first of multiple turnovers as linebacker Dorian Robinson recovered a fumble.

Picayune ook over at the Pascagoula 30 yard line and capitalized on the turnover with another Thomas touchdown run, this time from 2 yards out.

Another extra point sailed through the uprights and Picayune had a commanding 21-0 lead with half of the first quarter still to play.

The teams traded possessions to run out the first quarter of play, but on the first play of the second quarter outside linebacker Jalen Hall intercepted Keilon Parnell to stop the driving Panthers.

Picayune got the ball on its own 20, but ended up turning the ball over when the usually sure handed Turnage fumbled the ball on the Picayune 44-yard line.

Pascagoula made the Maroon Tide pay as they drove down the field and scored on a pass from Parnell to wide receiver Jaylan Thompson.

Josh Forsman came on for the successful extra point to pull the Panthers back in.

There was still 8:21 left in the half and Picayune only had a 14-point lead.

After a Picayune punt by Isaac Hickman Pascagoula had the ball on its own 34-yard line.

The Panthers went three and out, but the punt was blocked by defensive tackle Elijah Jenkins and recovered by Conner in the end zone for a Maroon Tide touchdown.

The extra point brought Picayune’s lead to 28-7 with 3:53 left in the half.

Picayune’s defense forced another punt from the Panthers and the Maroon Tide offense drove down the field but starting quarterback Myers was hurt on a QB sneak.

Myers went down clutching his leg and was replaced by Hickman at quarterback.

Picayune ran down the clock and head into halftime with a 28-7 lead.

Pascagoula started the second half on offense and drove down the field until another turnover cost the Panthers.

The Panthers were inside the red zone when Hall stepped in front of a pass to pick the ball off.

Picayune had possession on their own 12 yard line, but fumbled the ball and it was recovered by the Panthers.

Pascagoula struck quickly with a touchdown run from Parnell to bring the score to 28-14 with 8:11 left to play in the third quarter.

The Maroon Tide rushing attack wore down the Pascagoula defense, and after a four-minute drive Picayune punched the ball into the end zone with a touchdown run from Hall.

Samples’ kick brought the score to 35-14.

Picayune’s defense held firm and forced another punt.

The offense came on and scored after just two plays as Thomas waltzed into the end zone for a 12-yard touchdown run.

The kick was good, and the score was 42-14 with just over a minute left to play in the third.

Another three and out from the Panthers saw the Maroon Tide take control at the team’s own 42 yard line.

Picayune’s quick strike offense scored again as Turnage found a hole in the middle of the defense and sprinted into the end zone on a 58-yard touchdown run.

After another PAT, Picayune led the Panthers 49-14 just 30 seconds into the fourth quarter.

The defense once again came up big for the Maroon Tide.

After a tackle for loss by defensive tackle Lawrence Hopkins, linebacker Dorian Robinson got an interception of his own.

The offense took over at the five-yard line and scored as Hickman hit a quick pass to wide receiver Jashawn Lee to give the Maroon Tide a 56-14 lead with 10:24 left to play.

Pascagoula drove deep into Picayune territory on the team’s next offensive possession.

The Panthers were inside the red zone when Robinson got his second interception of the game at the Picayune 10 yard line and returned it all the way to the Pascagoula 24.

Three plays later running back Austin Samples powered his way into the end zone on a 9-yard touchdown run.

His successful extra point put the final score at 63-14.

After the game Head Coach Dodd Lee said he wasn’t happy with the team’s performance in the first half, but his athletes improved as the game went on.

“I thought we came out and did some good things in the second half,” Lee said.

Picayune will end the regular season on the road at Wayne County on Nov. 8 with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
