The Senior Center of South Pearl River County will celebrate veterans with a brunch on Friday Nov. 8 at 10 a.m.
Along with a full spread, the annual Veterans Celebration Brunch will feature keynote speaker Congressman Steven Palazzo, with an introduction from State Representative Stacey Wilkes. There will also be presentations from local veterans who served in each branch of the military.
The brunch will honor veterans and fallen veterans, said administrative assistant Julie Samples.
Local government officials have been invited to the brunch, said executive director David Sykes. Invites have been sent to veterans who are senior center regulars, and all veterans are welcome to attend.
“These are people who served above and beyond what the rest of us have and made one of the biggest sacrifices you could make,” Sykes said.
Picayune Memorial High School NJROTC students will present the colors. The event will also include a photo slideshow of local veterans during their time of service. Any veterans or family members of veterans who want to submit photos to the slide show can bring them to Samples at the Senior Center email them to her at ad.thecenter@gmail.com.
The brunch is sponsored by Humana and Solace Hospice.
The Center anticipates 75 to 100 attendees, said participation coordinator Kathleen Penton.
To attend, veterans can RSVP with the Senior Center at 601-798-9892 by Nov. 4.
