Nicholson Elementary School is opening its doors to the public for its annual fall festival on Oct. 22.

The festival is open to anyone in the community and will be from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the school’s multipurpose building. The festival has been held for at least 10 years and serves as a fundraiser for arts in the elementary school, said Karen Balch, a third grade teacher on the school’s arts committee.

The event will include games for kids, a photo booth and snack foods like hot dogs, chili, popcorn and candy. Tickets, for 25 cents apiece, will be sold at the door and can be used to play the festival games or purchase food, Balch said.

Typically the school raises $1,000 after expenses through the festival, Balch said. The money raised from the festival will be combined with last year’s funds to pay for an arts experience for students, Balch said.

In previous years, the funds have been used to pay for artists to come into the school, to take children to see a play, to provide materials to extend arts education, and to help provide testing rewards, Balch said.

The festival booths are run by the school’s teachers, staff and faculty and by the local high school robotics team members. The festival gives parents, students and teachers a chance to interact in an afterschool setting, Balch said.

“It’s open to the public, and anyone’s invited to come and participate, and help us enjoy the evening and support our school,” Balch said.
