Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at New Hebron Baptist Church. Rev. K. Martin Thomas is Pastor. Rev. George Tillman will officiate at the service. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time.
Dixie King Whitehead was the second born child to the late Laura Bradley Curry and Dave King, on February 13, 1929. The Lord called her home on September 24, 2019 surrounded by her loving family at the age of 90.
Dixie attended the Pearl River County School System where she received her G.E.D. Dixie gave her life to Christ and was baptized at an early age under the leadership of Rev. Newkirk. She was a faithful and active member of New Hebron Baptist Church where she served on the Junior Mission, treasury of the Senior Mission, the Church Sick Committee, and the Ladies Auxiliary. Dixie married the love of her life, the late Charles Whitehead in August 1947 and to this union five children were born. To have known Dixie was to love her. She was a well-respected pillar of the community. She was kind and caring.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Charles Whitehead; brother, Robert Whitehead; sister, Christine Johnson; and grandson, William Graham.
To cherish and carry on her loving memories, five children, Morris (Joan) Whitehead, Judy Graham, JoAnna Jarvis, George Whitehead, and Paulette (James) Smith all of Carriere, MS; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 6 great great-grandchildren; sister, Maggie Tyson of Carriere, MS; brother, Waldo (Flo) McCray of Chicago, Illinois; two special daughters, Linda Nixon and Barbara Mayfield; special friend, Molly Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Interment will be in the New Hebron Cemetery. Entrusted to Brown’s Funeral Home.
