Funeral Services for Auburn Roland Smith, age 92, of Picayune, MS, who passed away Sunday, September 8, 2019, will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Picayune.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Picayune.

Burial will be in New Palestine Cemetery under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home.

Rev. R.T. Buckley and Rev. Seth Stanley will officiate the service.

A native of Picayune, MS, he was a paratrooper during WWII in the U.S. Army. Auburn was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 32 years, then retired from Stennis Space Center after 11 years. Auburn then served the City of Picayune as the sexton at New Palestine Cemetery, until he retired at the age of 85. He served as deacon at First Baptist Church of Picayune for 60 years, and also taught boys and men’s Sunday Classes. Auburn loved his God, his family, and his church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert W. Smith and Dora Davis Smith; his granddaughter, Anna Ka Sweet; his sister, Bobbie Lee Witthauer; and his brothers, Larry W. Smith and Kent Smith.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 69 years, Emma Grace Pearson Smith; his children, Kay (Gene) Combs, Jan (Eugene) Sweet, and Jim (Tracy) Smith; his grandchildren, Trey (Crystal) Combs, Jenny (Justin) Green, Clay (Casey) Sweet, Jessica Smith, and Kurt Smith; his great grandchildren, Aidan Combs, Wyatt Combs, Brennen Green, Maddox Green, Rheddic Green, Easton Sweet, and Annaston Sweet; and numerous nieces and nephews.
