A score of 1 indicates minimal knowledge and a score of 2 indicates the student might have difficulty in the next grade level, according to the guide. A score of 5 is advanced and 3 indicates general mastery, according to the 2018 Family Guide to MAAP. The state’s goal is to have at least 70 percent of students proficient, or scoring level 4 or 5 in English language arts and math by 2025.
