Two public fireworks shows will be available to Pearl River County residents on the Fourth of July.
The McNeill Volunteer Fire Department will be holding its annual fireworks show on July 4 in the field across from the fire station, said Fire Chief Donny Leonard.
Another show will also be available at SunRoamer’s RV Park just outside of Picayune on Stafford Road.
Lee’s Chapel Number One Baptist Church will provide musical entertainment for the fourth year, Leonard said. Gospel singing will begin at 6 p.m., Leonard said, and the music group Big Blessing from Louisville, Miss. will perform at 7 p.m. on an 18-wheeler flatbed.
The fireworks show will start when it gets dark, Leonard said and musical performances will continue until the fireworks begin.
The event is family friendly event, so no fireworks or alcohol are allowed on the field, Leonard said. Leonard expects around 2,000 people to be in attendance, he said, and he suggests bringing lawn chairs.
Portable restroom facilities will be available and two deputies will be in attendance to ensure no fireworks outside of the official show are being shot off, Leonard said.
The volunteer fire department bought a new fire truck last year and appreciates the public’s support, Leonard said. Donations to the department can be made at the end of the event.
Locals can also watch a fireworks show at the Sun Roamers RV Resort Park on the 4th of July, said resort manager Angel Avery.
The third annual event is free and open to the public, Avery said.
“We just do it because it’s the 4th of July and everyone enjoys it,” Avery said.
The firework show will begin at about 8:45 or 9 p.m. when it gets dark, Avery said, and is open to anyone who wants to come. The park’s pool will also be open to the public for swimming during the day for a nominal fee, Avery said.
Attendees should bring a chair or blanket so they have a place to sit at the campground, Avery said, and the fireworks show will take place by the pond.
Sun Roamers RV Resort Park is located at 31 Mississippi Pines Boulevard in Picayune.
