Security features being added to Picayune’s utility department

The city of Picayune’s utility department office will be closed for minor renovations from May 6 through 10, said Public Works Director Eric Morris. However, that construction may be complete earlier than May 10, he said.
During the renovation, utility payments can still be made via the drive up payment window and it’s suggested that customers have their account numbers ready to ensure quick service, according to a message put out by the City Hall of Picayune Facebook page.
New utility accounts will be handled at two desks that will be set up in the Council chambers, according to the same Facebook post.
When the renovations are complete, the office will have new cabinets and countertops and security glass on the clerks’ windows, he said.
“It’s just an enhancement for safety and security for the ladies behind the counter,” Morris said.
The security glass should eliminate an occasional issue where over excited customers accidentally expel saliva at the clerks, he said.
