Officers seeking suspect in shooting

Detectives with the Picayune Police Department are seeking information in relation to gunshots being fired at a vehicle over the weekend, which caused minor injuries to a Picayune man.
According to a press release from Assistant Chief Dustin Moeller, the shooting occurred Sunday at about noon. At that time, officers were sent to the area of Morris Street after gunshots were reported in the area.
As officers were searching the area, they were alerted that an 18-year-old male was being treated for a gunshot wound at Highland Community Hospital.
Officers then went to the emergency room at the local hospital to speak with the gunshot victim where they learned that the victim was a passenger in a vehicle as it headed west on Morris Street when he was shot by an unknown person or persons.
The victim said that while the car was traveling down the street, someone allegedly fired at it.
During the shooting, the victim suffered a gunshot wound to his hand, which was classified as being minor.
Investigation into the identity of the person or persons responsible for shooting the vehicle is ongoing. Detectives with the department ask the community for assistance in identifying potential suspects.
