An incident of a car blocking traffic prompted officers with the Picayune Police Department to check on the driver, which ultimately led to his arrest for possessing a large amount of marijuana.
According to a departmental release, the incident occurred on Jan. 14, just after 2 p.m. when officers patrolling the area of Herrin Drive noticed a car was blocking traffic.
When officers spoke with the driver, identified as Deria Omando Brown, 27, of 715 South Haugh Apt. K87, they noticed the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
A search was conducted of the vehicle and inside it the officers found a large bag with a green leafy substance suspected to be hydroponic marijuana, the release states.
In the trunk of the vehicle, the officers found a pair of Air Jordan tennis shoes that housed a black digital scale, according to information in the release.
Those findings in the search led to Brown’s arrest for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute within 1,500 feet of a school.
