Routine traffic operations by the Picayune Police Department netted two suspects for drug related offenses.

According to departmental reports, a stop was conducted on Nov. 25, just after 8:30 that morning when the officer saw a vehicle with an expired tag traveling down Memorial Boulevard.

During that stop, the driver was identified as 25-year-old Larry Wayne Tate, of 23080 Road 262, Picayune. According to the report, when Tate was asked for proof of insurance and his driver’s license, he was unable to provide either. A check of his record determined that Tate’s license was suspended. Investigative techniques determined that controlled substances may be in the vehicle, leading to a search that located a pipe allegedly used to consume marijuana, along with prescription medication identified as clonazepam and Adderall, and substances suspected to be methamphetamine and marijuana, the report states.

Tate was arrested for two counts of felony possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, driving while license suspended, no proof of insurance and expired tag.

In a separate incident that occurred on Dec. 2, at 9:43 p.m. officers working a safety checkpoint came into contact with two people in a car, one of which was 23-year-old Kimberly Elizabeth Penton of 24 Parkside Dr. During the interaction, the officer noticed that Penton and the driver were acting nervously, prompting the officer to ask the driver to pull the vehicle to the road’s shoulder and exit the vehicle.

During a search of the occupants, Penton was determined to be in possession of a crystal like substance suspected to be methamphetamine, leading to her arrest for possession of a controlled substance, the report states.
