Two people were arrested for drug related offenses in separate cases by officers with the Picayune Police Department.

On Oct. 20, officers arrested Meadow Leigh Ann Granat, 18, of 215 Williams Ave., for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute after she approached a checkpoint and was unable to provide her driver’s license or proof of insurance, according to a report filed with the department. 

That driving violation prompted the officer to speak with her further, during which she appeared nervous, the report states.

Investigative techniques later discovered that Granat was in possession of three ecstasy pills that were engraved with the likeness of the cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants and a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana, leading to her arrest for those offenses.

That same day, officers arrested Ronald Lee Cuevas II, 25 of 765 Burgetown Rd., Carriere for possession of methamphetamine after they were dispatched to the area of Cedar Grove Avenue due to community complaints that a suspicious vehicle was shining a light in various driveways, a departmental report states.

Officers arrived to find the vehicle in question as it was traveling down Telly Road on the wrong side of the street, and saw a man later identified as Cuevas shining a light in a driveway, the report states.

A stop was conducted and officers noticed that Cuevas appeared nervous as he spoke with them, reached into his wallet and handed the officer some money, the report states. After the officer handed the money back to Cuevas, the officer told Cuevas that he needed his driver’s license and proof of insurance. After handing the officer his driver’s license, Cuevas was unable to provide proof of insurance, the report states.

When the officer asked what he was doing in the area, Cuevas said he was looking for a gun he thought he left in the neighborhood and he was trying to find it before someone else did, the report states.

Due to the suspicious nature of his story, Cuevas was asked to exit the vehicle and a search of his person and vehicle was conducted, during which the officer found a substance suspected to be methamphetamine, leading to his arrest for the offense.
