Abandoned vehicle leads detectives to drug bust

An abandoned vehicle in the roadway led to the arrest of the vehicle’s owner after detectives with the Picayune Police Department investigated the matter further.

According to a departmental release, the vehicle was found abandoned in the area of Morris Street and Neal Road, parked so it was blocking traffic, on Nov. 6 just before 1 p.m.

A search of the area of Morris Street found the owner of the vehicle, determined to be 21-year-old Demond Lamont McGill Jr., of 205 N. Delano Dr., standing in the doorway of a home on that street. Detectives noticed that McGill was holding a digital scale and had what appeared to be marijuana on the front of his shirt. A search of the area where McGill was standing located several bags containing a substance suspected to be high grade marijuana, which further investigation determined McGill was allegedly trying to sell, the release states.

McGill was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a church, the release states.
