Three suspects arrested for drug related offenses

Three suspects were arrested in unrelated cases for drug violations during traffic stops conducted by the Picayune Police Department.

A stop conducted on Sept. 24, for a switched tag led to the arrest of John Paul Maret, 41, of 20 Pearson Rd., Carriere and his passenger Joshua Jermaine Jones, 35, of 806 Herrin Dr., according to departmental reports.

During the stop, the officer spoke with Maret, who was unable to provide a valid driver’s license or proof of insurance. A check of his license determined it had been suspended, leading to his arrest for driving while license suspended and the officer issuing him a citation for no insurance and switched tag, the report states.

Inventory of the vehicle was conducted after his arrest, during which the officer found a glass pipe typically used in the inhalation of controlled substances, a bag containing heroin and antihistamines while a bag of methamphetamine was found near where Jones was sitting in the vehicle, the report states. A search of Jones found some marijuana in his shoe, the report states.

Both were arrested for possession of a controlled substance, according to the report.

A separate stop conducted on Sept. 30, occurred while officers were working a safety checkpoint along Beech Street. At that time, 50-year-old Earnest Joseph Bailey of 1201 Kingsway Dr., Apt. 15, pulled up to the checkpoint. While officers spoke with Bailey, they detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, prompting them to request that he pull his vehicle to the side of the road .When officers asked for his driver’s license and proof of insurance, he was unable to provide them, the report states.

Bailey was asked to exit the vehicle and a pat down of his person was conducted leading the officer to find a lump in his pocket that turned out to be pills later identified as ecstasy, the report states. While being booked into the jail, Bailey was found to be in possession of some marijuana as well, leading to his arrest for felony possession of a controlled substance for the ecstasy and being cited for possession of marijuana.
