The Picayune Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance to identify a suspect involved in exchanging counterfeit currency.

Assistant Chief of Police Jeremy Magri said that on August 8, at about 9:42 a.m., officers were dispatched to a local business in reference to counterfeit currency being passed there.

When they arrived, officers spoke with the complainants who said that on August 4, a Hispanic male entered the business wanting to exchange four $100 bills for smaller currency. Magri said that the employee complied, but while counting the money in the cash register later that day, employees discovered the four bills were fake.

He said the four bills were stamped with text that reads, “For motion picture use only.”

Business owners are asked to be on the lookout for any currency stamped with that text and to take a close look at any money, especially $100 bills, being used in transactions.

Magri asks anyone with information about the identity of the suspect to call the Picayune Police Department at 601-798-7411.
