Thursday, the Pearl River County’s Sheriff Department was informed that the body of a deceased man was found near the Pearl River County and Stone County line on Highway 26.

Chief Investigator Marc Ogden said the Sheriff’s Department received a call from Stone County’s Sheriff’s Department that they believed the man was killed in Pearl River County.

The department responded to the call and later spoke to a woman who had last seen the deceased man, Ogden said.

Ogden said the woman told the deputies that the man asked her to take him to the location where the body was found, which led investigators to determine the man was more likely shot in Forrest County on a bridge on Hurricane Creek Road.

Ogden said once it was determined that the man was more likely shot in Forrest County he contacted that county’s law enforcement agency and turned in the case to them.

He said it appeared that the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot, but the investigation is ongoing by the Forrest County Sheriff’s Department.
