Sigurlaug “Lilla” Stewart

Funeral Services for Sigurlaug “Lilla” Stewart, age 92, of Picayune, Mississippi, who passed away Monday, April 30, 2018, will be held Friday, May 4, 2018, at 1:00 pm at Pine Grove Baptist Church.

Visitation will be Friday, May 4, 2018 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Pine Grove Baptist Church.

Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home.

Dr. Daniel Howard will officiate the service, assisted by Dr. Cody Warren.

A native of Reykjavik, Iceland, she was a WWII war bride. Lilla was a retired Bank Teller and Savings Assistant at Bank of Picayune/Hancock Bank. She was an active member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, participating in WMU, Triple L Senior Adult Club, and visitation for church homebound members. Lilla also was a member of the FBC Keenager’s Club. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend who will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jon Einar Gudmundsson and Marta Jonsdottir; her loving husband, Wilber Stewart; her son-in-law, Gerald (Jerry) Mitchell; and grandson-in-law, Rodney Gregory.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jon E. (Elizabeth) Stewart, Martha Ann Mitchell, Diane (Danny) Kraemer, Linda “Tina” Stewart; five grandchildren, Suzanne Gregory, Kristi Mitchell, Jeri Ann (Thomas) McCorkle, Jon David (Tanya) Stewart, and Brittany Stewart; nine great grandchildren, Branden Lossett, Taylor Gregory, Tanner Gregory, Myah Harper, Mitchell Harper, Blayne Stewart, Adrianna Humpal, Hannah Stewart, and Khloe Stewart; two great-great grandchildren, Remi Humpal and Charlotte Stewart; her brother, Einar (Una) Einarsson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank her hospice caregivers, Rhonda Derks, and Margaret Hall, for their loving care for our mother.
