Tuesday, a primary election will be held across Mississippi to elect candidates for U.S. Senate and House of Representatives seats. If a runoff election is necessary, it will be held June 26. The general election will be on Nov. 6.

Pearl River County is a part of the Mississippi 4th Congressional District. As such, voters in this area will choose a candidate to represent this district in the U.S. House. There is one Democratic candidate and two Republican candidates.

Jeramey Anderson will be running unopposed as the Democratic candidate. He is currently a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives for District 110.

There are two candidates running on the Republican ticket, including incumbent Steven Palazzo and E. Brian Rose. Palazzo was elected to the seat in 2010 and was re-elected in 2016.

Democratic candidates seeking a seat on the U.S. Senate include David Baria, Jensen Bohren, Jerone Garland, Victor G. Maurice Jr., Omeria Scott and Howard Sherman.

On the Republican ticket for U.S. Senate voters can choose between Richard Warren Boyanton and the incumbent Roger F. Wicker.

Pearl River County Circuit Clerk Nance Stokes said voters must declare a party to vote in the primary election. If the primary results in a runoff election, voters must vote for the same party that they did in the primary. A voter who has not voted in the primary may vote in a runoff and choose either party. For the general election, Stokes said all candidates will be on a single ballot, so individuals may vote for whichever party they want.

Voters who will be unable to vote the day of the election have until Saturday at noon to cast an absentee ballot at their local Circuit Clerk’s office. There are offices located in Picayune at 917 Goodyear Boulevard on the second floor. In Poplarville, the Circuit Clerk’s office can be found in the County Courthouse, located at 200 South Main St.

Absentee ballots can also be mailed, in, but need to be received by 5 p.m. on June 4.
