Picayune man dies in two car accident in St. Tammany Parish

A Picayune man died as a result of a two-vehicle accident Thursday evening on Interstate 59 in St. Tammany Parish.

Louisiana State Police troopers were dispatched to the accident at 8:17 p.m. and found two vehicles, a 2004 Ford Expedition and a 2012 Lexus had been involved, a release from the Louisiana State Police Troop L states.

The Expedition was driven by 32-year-old Ronnie Joseph Reagan of Picayune, who was heading northbound on Interstate 59 at that time. The accident occurred when his vehicle was struck from behind by the Lexus, driven by 38-year-old Seggie Tyrone Ruffin of Columbia, Mississippi, the release states.

The impact pushed Reagan’s vehicle into the median, causing it to overturn and eject him from the vehicle.

Ruffin reportedly sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Ochsner Medical Center- North Shore. Reagan was transported by Acadian Air-med to University Medical Center where he later succumbed to severe injuries.

As part of the investigation, blood samples will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis, the release states.  Results will be forwarded to the St. Tammany Parish District Attorney’s Office for consideration of potential criminal charges.
