During Wednesday’s Pearl River County Board of Supervisors meeting, Les Dungan with Dungan Engineering provided an update regarding bids for countywide bridge replacement projects and informed the Board about the project’s progress.

Dungan requested the Board authorize execution of the countywide overlay project. He said he would be meeting with the contractor soon to go over specific points regarding the project.

Dungan also recommended the Board award bids for the replacement of two more bridges.  The Board awarded Pearl River Paving LLC the project to repair a bridge on Sones Chapel Road at a cost of $484,068 and to repair the bridge on Harry Sones Road at a cost of $319,997.

The funds for both projects were made available through the Office of State Aid Road Construction, Dungan said.

Dungan also updated the Board regarding other county projects.

He said the county is currently coordinating with a landowner and utility companies to construct a short onsite diversion around Shenandoah Road in Poplarville in order to allow traffic to bypass the existing bridge while repair work is being performed.

Dungan said the bridge on Lake Side Drive is currently in critical condition and is a bridge of concern.

He said currently the county has some money from the Local System Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation program but not enough to cover the cost of the replacement and recommended replacing the bridges with the remaining funds from LSBP and pledge local funds for the completion of the project.

The county is also working on a plan to replace the bridge in Walkiah Bluff utilizing access to federal land funds provided by the federal government, Dungan said.
