Despite the less than favorable weather conditions over the weekend, Picayune Main Street’s biannual Street Festival saw a heavy turnout.

Picayune Main Street Director Reba Beebe said that fortunately, the rain only delayed the opening of the event by an hour and nearly all of the vendors showed up.

Beebe said vendors from 14 states, including Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, North Carolina, South Carolina and Alabama were in attendance.

Saturday and Sunday’s festival brought unique shopping and dining opportunities to downtown Picayune. About 300 vendors offered jewelry, handcrafted items, paintings, clothes and food.

Beebe said that for a number of the vendors, it was their first year at the Street Festival.

Each Street Festival also offers entertainment such as dance performances, martial arts demonstrations and live music.

Some attendees make it a point to visit the fair each year or even twice a year.

Melanie Winslow from Slidell, La., said she’s attended the Festival in the spring and fall for the past three years

She said she particularly enjoys looking at the merchandise, crafts and clothing that’s for sale.

Several other regulars used the opportunity to enjoy the day and try some of the culinary offerings.

“I’m enjoying the food and the idea of getting out and seeing everybody,” said Picayune resident Allyson Tolar.

Beebe said she was grateful that Main Street’s logistics team was able to pull off a great event.
