Blue Knights MS IX Chapter will hold a BBQ lunch benefit on April 13.

Chapter IX President David Ervin said the funds raised during the event will help cover the cost of a triple bypass open heart surgery for Pearl River County Deputy Brian Anthony.

The event will take place at Jack Read Park on Goodyear Boulevard in Picayune. Members from the Blue Knights will be on-site from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Each BBQ plate costs $10, and will include one-fourth BBQ chicken, baked beans, potato salad and a roll.

Ervin said Anthony suffered a heart attack earlier in the year. Due to the impending surgery, he’ll be unable to go back to work until he has fully recovered.

“Anthony is the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department head instructor and trainer for the K-9 division,” Ervin said. “He has given his life for the protection of everyone in this community and this is a great way to help him out.”

To buy a ticket, contact a Blue Knights MS IX member or ask any Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department deputy.

Blue Knights MS IX is a non-profit organization that focuses on helping current and former law enforcement officers, Ervin said.

“We currently have members from 13 different law enforcement agencies. We have members who work in Hancock County, the Mississippi Department of Corrections and even an officer who worked with the New York Police Department,” Ervin said. “We’re always looking for the needs in our community and look to help in any way possible.”
