Highland Community Hospital Volunteers are preparing for a jewelry sale next week that will offer affordable jewelry and accessories in an effort to raise money for the hospital.

Human Resources Director Cynthia Render-Leach said volunteers at the hospital hold the sale every six months to support the hospital’s mission of providing world-class care to its patients.

The hospital’s spring fundraiser will be held March 8 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and March 9 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the main lobby.

Leach said proceeds will be used to purchase supplies for patients the hospital does not generally provide.

“The money is used to enhance the patient experience,” Leach said.

She said the proceeds have been used in the past to purchase teddy bears, coloring books, tables and games for children. The funds have also been used to purchase CPR dummies to teach classes in the community and training materials for the hospital staff.

Leach said directors from each department submit a wish list and the volunteers determine what items to purchase using the funds raised.

Last year, the hospital raised about $2,500 and is hoping to exceed that amount this year.

The sale will include jewelry, purses, clothing, toys and other affordable gift items, all of which are $5 each.

Leach said as Easter approaches, the sale is an ideal time to get affordable gift items.

She feels the sale is also an opportunity for those who haven’t seen the hospital to see the state-of-the-art facilities the hospital has to offer.
