A two-vehicle accident in Hancock County claimed the life one person.

According to a press release from the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the vehicle accident occurred on Feb. 12, at about 10 p.m. on Highway 607 northbound, near Highway 604.

The accident involved a 2013 Ford Fiesta driven by a 71-year old male, who was traveling south on Highway 607. The release states the Ford Fiesta moved into the northbound lane and collided with a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 21-year-old male of Slidell, La.

The as yet unidentified driver of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained during the accident. The driver of the Chevrolet suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Memorial Hospital.

The release states both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and the crash is still under investigation and updates will follow as they become available.
