Several people were recently arrested by the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department for drug related offenses in two separate cases.

A joint operation with the Picayune Police Department, Mississippi Department of Corrections and the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department to locate a suspect resulted in his arrest.

Sheriff David Allison said the suspect, identified as 37-year-old Allen D. Nix of 1715 Highway 11 South, was seen traveling north on Highway 11 in the Nicholson area on Jan. 24.

Officers conducted a stop on the vehicle near Dick Kennedy Road and took Nix into custody for a larceny warrant with the Picayune Police Department and a probation violation with MDOC for failure to report, Allison said.

The sheriff said his agency was looking for Nix due to a previous incident where investigators purchased heroin from him, leading to his additional arrest for sale of a controlled substance and conspiracy to sell a controlled substance.

A separate incident on Jan. 29, that began as a routine stop for careless driving resulted in the arrest of two individuals for separate offenses.

Allison said the stop was conducted at the intersection of Highway 26 and Old Crossroads East in Poplarville on that day. When patrol deputy Andrew Ogden worked the stop, he later discovered that the driver, 35-year-old Richard Lowe of 602 Ave. B, Bogalusa, La., was in possession of methamphetamine, digital scales and a glass pipe commonly used to consume narcotics, leading to his arrest for careless driving, possession of paraphernalia and felony possession of a controlled substance.

While speaking with the passenger of the vehicle, Ogden was given false identifying information, but able to use investigative techniques to correctly identify the woman as 24-year-old Dew Breland of 24 Gravel Pit Rd., Sandy Hook, Miss., Allison said.

A check of her record determined that Breland had felony warrants out for her arrest on the offense of resisting arrest and obstruction of justice out of Walthal County, a forgery warrant out of Marion County and she had a hold placed on her with the Louisiana Department of Corrections.

Allison said Breland was taken into custody for the warrants and additionally arrested for providing false identifying information to a law officer.
