Pearl River Central High School Head Football Coach and Athletic Director Larry Dolan has decided to step down from his current position.

Dolan said the main reason for his decision was the fact that he lives an hour away from the campus.

“There were times when my wife and I were unable to have a conversation due to our busy schedules,” Dolan said.

“This was a tough decision, one that I contemplated for a couple of months but at the end, I believe it is the best decision for myself and PRC. This is a great community and it’s a great place to raise your children. Superintendent Alan Lumpkin and all the members of the School Board are great individuals and I just hate to leave the program before we accomplished all our goals.”

Heading forward, Dolan said he is thinking of going into retirement but if he were to take another job, it would have to be closer to Hattiesburg.

“I’m not sure what I’m going to do later on, I have already been retired once so I’m just going to wait and see,” Dolan said.

During his two years at PRC, Dolan had a 5-17 record with the Blue Devils.

As Dolan and PRC head in different directions, Dolan said he has been able to make many new friends in Carriere and he will have nothing but good memories from his time with the Blue Devils.

“It’s hard to pick out a favorite moment during my time here but one game that I’ll always remember is the matchup against Picayune during my first season,” Dolan said. “ I remember people filled the stands two hours before kick-off, everyone in the community came out and supported our student-athletes and the way the band and JROTC performed during halftime, it was just a great Friday night atmosphere.”

Calls to the District to find out whether a replacement for Dolan has been found were not returned by press time Tuesday.
