PRC basketball teams earn victories against Long Beach

A double-double from Willie Reece helped the Blue Devils defeat Long Beach High School 59-44 Tuesday afternoon.

Reece finished the game with 28 points, 10 rebounds, one assist and one steal, while A.J. Banks scored 17 points, eight rebounds and three steals and Jason Long had 12 points, one rebound and four assists, Pearl River Central High School Head boys basketball Coach Scott Stephens said. Josh Theady added two points, six rebounds and one steal for the Blue Devils.

PRC (11-4) will play its first district game of the season Friday night when they travel to North Pike High School. Tip-off will be at 7:30 p.m.

—Lady Devils 50, Long Beach 22: The Lady Devils defeated Long Beach High School 50-22 Tuesday afternoon in part due to 18 points by Payton Lee and 16 points from Harlee Davis. 

After the first quarter of play, the Pearl River Central High School girls basketball team held a 10-7 lead. Heading into the locker rooms at halftime, the Lady Devils led 25-13 but it was in the third quarter when the matchup was decided.

PRC held the Lady Bearcats to only one point in the third quarter, while the Lady Devils scored 13 points of their own.  Lee also contributed with two rebounds, one assist and two steals while Davis finished the night with three rebounds, four assists and seven steals. Brooklyn Howe had six points, four rebounds, one assist and seven steals, Breyanna Bernard netted four points, 10 rebounds, and one assist and one steal.

During the last quarter of the game, the Lady Devils outscored Long Beach 12-8 and the team earned its 13th victory of the year.

Lakyn Spence added four points, two rebounds and one assist and Amy Mitchell racked up two points, two assists and one rebound.

PRC (13-4) will play its first district matchup Friday night when the team travels to North Pike High School. Tip-off will be at 5 p.m.
