Lady Maroon Tide and Blue Devils earn victories in basketball action

On Friday night, the Maroon Tide boys basketball team was defeated 60-46 by Pascagoula High School at Kelly Wise Gymnasium.

After the end of the first quarter of play, Picayune Memorial High School held a 14-9 lead and by halftime, the Maroon Tide led 29-20.

At the beginning of the third quarter, the Panthers made some adjustments on both ends of the court that would ultimately help the team earn the victory.

Pascagoula outscored the Maroon Tide 18-10 in the third quarter and 22-7 in the fourth quarter.

For Picayune, Delrae Smith scored 16 points, Jalen Hall had 13 and Vandell McGill finished with 11.

Kobe Jones had three points, Sergio Williams had two and Melvin Rankin had one.

The Maroon Tide (13-4) will open district play against Hattiesburg Tuesday at Kelly Wise Gymnasium.

Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.

The Lady Maroon Tide defeated Pascagoula 49-28.

The Picayune girls basketball team will also open district play Tuesday night at home against the Lady Tigers at 6 p.m.

—Blue Devils 53, Jaguars 52: Pearl River Central High School boys basketball team defeated North Pike High School 53-52 in the team’s district opener.

A.J. Banks earned a double-double after scoring 26 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and one assist for the Blue Devils.

Willie Reece had 16 points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal and Jason Long finished with three points, four assists, two rebounds and two steals.

Ethan Henley added seven points and two steals for PRC.

The Blue Devils (12-4, 1-0 Region 7-5A) will host Picayune Memorial High School Friday night in the team’s second district game of the season.

Tip-off will be at 7:30 p.m.

—Lady Jaguars 44, Lady Devils 34: Despite holding an early lead in the game, the Lady Devils came up short of earning a victory against North Pike Friday night.

PRC jumped to an early 6-4 lead after the first quarter and by halftime, the Lady Devils led 17-12.

But it was during the second half when the Lady Jaguars rallied from behind and outscored PRC 15-8 in the third quarter and 17-9 in the fourth to come away with the victory.

Harlee Davis led the Lady Devils with 12 points, four rebounds and three assists. Lakyn Spence had five points, four rebounds and two assists.

Breyanna Bernard and Madison Gower finished with four points each and Brooklyn Howe scored three points and had three rebounds.

Samantha Orgeron, Lindsey McCurdy and Payton Lee all finished with two points each for the Lady Devils.

PRC (13-5, 0-1 Region 7-5A) will take the court Friday night at home against the Lady Maroon Tide.

Tip-off will be at 6 p.m.
